Dromana is a small coastal town located on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. The area was initially inhabited by the Boonwurrung people before the arrival of European settlers in the 1830s.

The town was named by James Purves, one of the first European settlers, after his hometown of Dromana in Ireland. The area was primarily used for farming and timber industry, with the establishment of a timber mill in the mid-19th century.

Dromana's first post office opened in 1858, and the town began to grow with the opening of the railway line in 1889. Tourism became a significant industry in the early 20th century, with visitors drawn to the area's natural beauty, hot springs, and beaches.

During World War II, Dromana was used as a training ground for soldiers, and the area was heavily fortified in case of enemy invasion. The remains of the fortifications can still be seen today.

In 1967, the peninsula became a separate shire, and Dromana became the main commercial center. The town experienced significant growth in the 1970s and 1980s, with the development of housing estates and the establishment of a large shopping center.

Today, Dromana remains a popular tourist destination, with visitors drawn to its beaches, wineries, and beautiful scenic drives. The town is also home to a number of festivals and events throughout the year, including the Dromana Show and the Dromana Drive-In.

Overall, the history of Dromana reflects the development of many Australian towns, from its early agricultural and timber industries to its growth as a tourist hub. Despite the changes and developments, Dromana has managed to maintain its unique character and charm.
